How I got my internship at Harper's Bazaar Arabia?

After finishing my internship for B.Tech, I was desperately searching for jobs. Engineering did not excite me at all, so I'd spend my time on fashion and beauty websites and their Instagram pages. By some miracle, I started following Milli Midwood, who was then Assistant Digital Editor at Harper's Bazaar Arabia. She was also an emerging influencer in the Middle East. All I knew was that I wanted to be her.  She'd post about fashion, her then boyfriend and fitness among several other things. Her life seemed perfect. Isn't that what social media does, anyway? Making everyone's lives look better than ours. Speaking of her content, she hosted a collaboration with a gym at the time. Inviting people to workout with her and in someway it was linked to sustainability. I wanted to go so badly, even though it meant waking up at 4am and sitting through an hour long drive (My parents drove me!).  When I did arrive at the location, I remember feeling out of place. I was the only

Courtesy @lionpose Instagram "Not all skincare products are tested on all skin tones," says Mindly Kailing who invested in Lion Pose after seeing benefits for her own skin. "Not only is this [brand] really good skincare, but Madhu and Nisha [founders] are really focused on inclusivity, especially in clinical testing which is super important if you are a woman of color". After facing skin problems of their own for many years the founders discovered that most skincare companies do not conduct formal clinical testing. And, the few who do are not required to test on all skin tones and types. Lion Pose aims to bridge this gap by testing their products on a wider and more diverse group of men and women. When tested on an independent panel of 30 participants aged 25-45, with Fitzpatrick skin tone 2-6, the label's newly launched Unspotted 4x delivered positive results, with 94% noticing a reduction in their dark spot size. The skincare brand created this miracle formulat

Introduction

Hello everyone,  My name is Janvi Thanki, a 27-year-old writer. I enjoy fashion, beauty and generally living a "beautiful" lifestyle. In terms of education, I have pursued a Bachelor's in Computer Engineering and pivoted to journalism and writing once the course got over.  I started with an internship at Harper's Bazaar Arabia in late 2018 and struggled through 5 years of internships, small gigs, project work, and a few horrible bosses to finally land a dream freelance gig at Bloomingdale's Middle East as an SEO Writer. Earlier this year, I also worked with Cosmopolitan Middle East as a Digital Writer.  Over the years, I started blogs and websites, wrote a few articles and then never continued. The victim in me wants you to believe that "life happened" and I couldn't continue but in the future I, the Janvi that has a successful website and has written for American Vogue want you to know that it was me that gave up. She also knows that the idea of pe
